If you get caught stealing in this progressive state, be prepared to serve two or more life sentences. That is unless you develop an expensive illness at which point the state will grant you immediate parole. That’s basically what happened to two sisters named Gladys and Jamie Scott in a case that has drawn national attention who were convicted of stealing $11 from a man. Neither apparently had any prior offenses. (Wonder what they give you for murder? Ten life sentences?)
When it turned out that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour discovered one had an expensive illness, he felt it better to just toss them out into the streets to fend for themselves. Justice Mississippi style!
Now folks, that state is definitely off my list of potential vacation destinations.
