Or perhaps there’s even a third possibility. Maybe he’s just getting ready to go the way of the dodo bird. Good questions to ask as the world trundles its way on down a path that was begun millions of years ago for the species known as home sapiens.
Consider our timeline over just the past two thousand years. Prior to that time, for about the last two hundred thousands years we were non-players globally. Just another specimen in a world of millions of species that wandered the globe in complete harmony with nature, on a planet that was pure, exotic and beautiful to behold.
Consider this graph of the population of man since the year 1A.D. :
Do you see any problems? Mankind was in balance with this world up until about 1950. A time many still alive can remember quite clearly. Then, the population of our planet took off and is even now following an exponential curve that is almost straight up! While that was occurring, the extinction rate of other life forms has climbed to the point where it is now estimated that some distinct species of either plant or animal become extinct every 20 minutes. That’s over 1000 times the normal rate!
So there you have it. On the one hand, the growth of one species is out of control while on the other hand, all other species are dying. How do you think this is going to turn out? Hmm? Can we live on a sterile world?
