An August day at River Run Park with no one around!

Empty sitesForsyth MO. – As August 2016 drew to a close, the weather had settled down into a repeating pattern of ninety degree days with partly cloudy skies, high humidity and afternoon pop-up showers. In other words, pretty typical stuff for that time of year. Thus it was, on a Sunday in the early afternoon, that I found myself enjoying a bag lunch at one of the RV camping sites situated along Bull Shoals Lake. That the water level was fairly higRainfall graphh was somewhat of a puzzle to me, as southwest Missouri was just barely climbing out of a season long mini drought! I posted a graphic that compare the rainfall at my location with West Plains MO. And while they were pretty much even for the year, my town of Forsyth was still over ten inches behind average for the year! Only July saw rainfall that was over the average for any one month, and it looked like August would also fall a mite short.

As I ate my ham sandwich, and forked down some tossed salad (both part of my latest Paleo diet effort), I reflected on how very soon, I’d surely miss these warm summer days. (All too soon, it would be fall with winter chomping at its heels)! And then it also struck me on how few others were doing the same thing as I was! Evidently, a warm weekend day with puffy cloudy in skies and light breezes wasn’t the in thing anymore. At this park, there were three RV’s and one tent camper when in times past the place would be crowded. The detective in me wondered Park rateswhat had changed? Then I noticed the small sign on the Park Attendants office! Not long ago, it cost $14 to stay a day and a night, now it seemed my Corps of Engineers buddies were charging $20! How much a sign for the times was that! Since I had a Golden Pass – the cost for myself would be half, but I had to wonder if more and more folks were scrimping just to survive. Perhaps camping out was just to darn expensive in this, the last months of Obama’s eight year long program of the wrecking of a Republic.
