Over many decades, I’ve tried many of the diet plans that are out there. Some are better than others. One of the best, in my opinion, is the Paleo Diet as it simulates the diet our forefathers dined on as far back as 2.5 million years. It’s a very good diet for those who really want to be healthy.
That being said, I have come to a time in my life, where some of the ‘Paleo prohibited’ food groups, have slithered their way back into my life. Of these, the biggest offenders have been; milk, potato chips, ice cream, cereals, pancakes, potatoes, beer and TV dinners. Even rye bread has been making an appearance here and there! As that was unacceptable for Paleo, I’ve decided to rename my particular manner of eating, the DanO Diet… Not perfect, but one I can live with!
The DanO Diet
If there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that sitting down to a heavy meal doesn’t really work out, at least not for me. I prefer to graze during the day and on through the early evening. Small bits of this fruit or that veggie. Yes, salads and fruits are big time deals for me. I like to use a food prep container, like the one shown below right, to make a few Paleo-styled quick grab and eat containers for whenever the urge hits me. Each being unique having some combination of a salad, various fruits and veggies such as celery, sliced bell pepper, orange slices and the like. These guys are generally consumed starting around mid morning, then on through the afternoon hours. Here’s a typical breakout scenario…
Breakfast – I usually have one of the following; pancakes, eggs, bacon or oats. I usually also have one glass of milk with that (and it’s whole mile, to boot). So, sue me! On the date of this post, it was oats and milk.
Brunch and Lunch – Salads, fruits an veggies from the aforementioned tray container or made on the spot. Today, I ate a salad and made a simple taco.
Afternoon Graze – More fruits and veggies and even some chips! One of my favorite vegetable combos is celery with peanut butter! And, a couple of beers at a local bar!
Dinner – For my evening repast, I prefer the no fuss manner of eating one of the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer meals in a basket combos. They’re basically heat and eat!
Towards the end of each day, I like to have a little buffer or room to cheat (aka the Biden syndrome), so that I can grab a late night snack.
Following is a summary report for the day;
