The baked potato salad offer thing!

John’s Frosted Mug – Forsyth MO.

Saturday night found me sitting at a local watering hole in my town of Forsyth Missouri. It had been another rough day. Well, to tell the truth, every day had been sort of hard lately. It’s an age thing, I guess. But, on this particular day, I was also in a confused state of mind, especially after listening to a nearby couple order some food….

The woman had ordered a meatball sandwich and that actually sounded rather good to me. However the man, after looking at the above menu of specials for the day, ordered the 8 piece Butterfly shrimp with fries. All good and well, until he then inquired about the added choices; coleslaw or the baked potato salad.

‘Wait a second’, he paused. ‘Is that a baked potato and a salad?’ My ears perked up on hearing that question. I thought, who would order a side of coleslaw when they could have a baked potato and a salad… But wait up, aren’t they already getting some fries?

The bartender responded, ‘Sir, the choices are either coleslaw or a baked potato salad. That’s just two single items.’

As I sat at the bar, I profess that I was now totally confused. I mean was this some sort of baked potato with lettuce stuffed in it? I sipped my beer and continued to listen in…

The man leaning forward… ‘OK, so let me get this straight. I’m getting the shrimp and some fries AND I can also have side of stuffed potato with no salad salad with that? He looked over at the bartender, clearly in mental incertitude. (A feeling we both shared at the time).

Ultimately, the question was resolved when it was disclosed that it was a new menu offering that differed from a regular potato salad, because it included added toppings, including bacon, onions, sour cream and cheese. Personally, I think they’d both would have been better off ordering the pizza.

Later on, I was offered a sample and found it to be quite good. John’s Frosted Mug does have a new menu coming out soon and is said to have some new and interesting items. Bon appetit!
