On the spur of the moment, I tried out the Sonic restaurant app to order food. This occurred in late January 2021 and I quickly found that, unlike McD’s app, Sonic still needs to work out some bugs! Here’s what I discovered;
1) When I first attempted to enter my method of payment as part of the app setup process. I had to submit it over three times before it actually ‘took’.
2) When I had made a selection on food and was in the drive thru lane, it was only then that the app asked me what ‘stall’ I was waiting in, after I had selected ASAP as to when I wanted to pick it up. Sadly, I wasn’t in a stall, I was in the drive thru line at that moment. And, there was no option on my cell phone screen to select that option.
3) At the ‘ordering speaker’, I explained that I was in the drive thru line. The ‘speaker’ asked for my name. I gave them my last name, which proved incorrect. They wanted my first name. The speaker informed me that they had a Don and a Dan who had ordered. Wow! What is it had been two people with the first name of Dan? They need a 4 digit code to prevent ‘mis-app-orders’.
4) At the window, I did get my food, but no receipt. A text receipt did appear on my email page, but I would have preferred to have a paper one.
My advice to Sonic’s IT (Information Tech) guys would be to have them go over to McDonald’s, use their app and see how it’s done properly! I would also advise this venue to expend some more effort at offering the buying public more real deals… Example: Buy a hamburger, get a free medium French fry. That sort of thing…
