Area lake flooding concerns near Forsyth Mo!

Boy! Just a day into the official start of Spring 2021, on March the 21st, and already there were a few signs of flooding over by River Run Park.

Now, while we hadn’t gotten all that much rain, thus far in March (5.18 inches versus a monthly normal of 3.8 inches), I had to remind myself that the soil in southwest Missouri was saturated and there was still only the winder foliage that didn’t do much to absorb water. So, everything that fell earlier in the month, was getting washed into the Tri-Lakes reservoir system of lakes. Very soon (as in two to three weeks) that wouldn’t be so much the case.

Unfortunately, we did have more than the normal amounts of rainfall, with more rain forecast before the end of the month. That put us on a very similar trajectory to the pattern seen last spring when both Shadowrock and River Run were flooded out for the season!

So, what we could really use right at this time, would be a bit less rainfall…. Here’s hoping!
